RM of Foam Lake’s story
The Rural Municipality of Foam Lake was incorporated on December 12, 1910, originally as RM No. 306. On December 31, 1952 it amalgamated with the RM of Beaver No. 276 and took on that number, which it still carries today. By 1955 it had the second highest population density of any rural municipality in the province.
The RM surrounds the town of Foam Lake, where its office is located, along with the resort villages of Chorney Beach and Leslie Beach. Within its boundaries are the organized hamlet of Tuffnell and several localities: Edmore, Goudie, Kristnes, Layco, Winthorpe and West Bend, which was once a village.
Outdoor spots include Leslie Beach Regional Park on the shores of Fishing Lake, and the Janusson Wildlife Refuge, a 65-hectare (160-acre) refuge established in 1990. Today the RM is run by an elected council and an appointed administrator, who meet on the second Wednesday of each month.
